PPU in practice — illustrative stories

Illustrative case examples showing how Power Phrase System is used across different presentations. These are de-identified illustrative examples, not real client data.

Important: The examples below are illustrative, created to show how a clinician might use PPU across different presentations. They are not real client cases. Real, verified case studies will be added as the founding practitioner programme generates de-identified submissions with consent.

Illustrative example 1

Selective mutism — age 8

A child presenting with selective mutism in a school counselling context. Verbal engagement had been minimal across several sessions. The counsellor introduces PILA cards without requiring any verbal response.

In this illustrative arc, the child points to “I won't rush you,” later reaches for an anchor card, and over subsequent sessions begins pointing to cards in sequence — a non-verbal way into communication that the clinician builds on within their own treatment plan.

Decks used: PILA cards · Anchor cards · Feelings-intensity scale

Illustrative example 2

Dysregulation and impulsivity — age 10

A child referred for persistent impulsive behaviour in classroom settings. The psychologist introduces the feelings-intensity scale as a non-verbal check-in at the start of each session.

In this illustrative arc, the child begins using the scale to signal their state before talking, and later chooses a power-action card to take home. The clinician uses these as anchors within their existing behavioural work — the cards support the practice, they don't replace it.

Decks used: Feelings-intensity scale · PILA cards · Power-action cards · Modal sequences
